[LATEST] - iOS 5 Untethered jailbreak for iPhone 4S and iPad 2 to be release Next Week (Between Jan 9-12, 2012)

  • Latest news from Pod2g tweet today confirmed that we might see a release of Untethered Jailbreak for the iPhone 4S and iPad 2 (i.e. A5 devices) by next week.
  • This is an awesome news for the A5 users. They have been waiting very patiently because their A4 counterparts (iPhone 4, iPad 1 etc) have their iOS 5.0.1 Jailbroken already.

[HOW-TO] - Jailbreak iOS 5.0.1 Untethered On iPhone3GS, iPhone4, iPhone4-CDMA, iPad1, iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4G (A4 Devices) Using Redsn0w 0.9.10b1

Notes from Dev-Team:
Here are the basic steps for how to get it:
  • The untether is for iOS 5.0.1 on iPhone3GS, iPhone4, iPhone4-CDMA, iPad1, iPod touch 3G, iPod touch 4G
  • If you have one of those devices and are not on 5.0.1 yet, update now! The SHSH window is still open for 5.0.1 If you unlock via ultrasn0w or gevey, make sure you only get to 5.0.1 via a custom IPSW! See the guides at places like iClarified.com if you don’t know how. Once you’re at 5.0.1, use the latest redsn0w 0.9.10 to both jailbreak and untether.
  • If you’re already at 5.0.1 with a tethered jailbreak, you have two choices: either run redsn0w 0.9.10 over your current jailbreak (deselect “Install Cydia” if you do that), or install the Cydia package prepared by the chronic devteam. The patches are the same regardless of which you choose.
  • Some of you are using a hybrid 5.0/5.0.1 configuration. If so, do not attempt to install this untether over that setup! You will most likely get into a reboot cycle. Do a sync and fresh restore to 5.0.1 then install the jailbreak + untether.

For Users On Stock iOS 5.0.1:

If your device is running stock iOS 5.0.1 then you can use download the latest Redsn0w 0.9.10b1 to for either Windows or Mac to give yourself an untethered jailbreak, instructions for which can be found below.

Here are the redsn0w download links:
UPDATE (Dec. 30, 2011):
Here are the redsn0w download links:

Step 1: Download the latest version of Redsn0w from the links given above.

Step 2: Start Redsn0w, select "Jailbreak" then check "Install Cydia". Follow the onscreen steps to place your device into DFU mode. Quickly hold “Power” button and then while holding the “Power” button, you will now have to hold “Home” button too. Now after few seconds release “Power” button but keep holding “Home” button until installation begins.

Step 3: Wait for Redsn0w to apply the full untethered jailbreak!

Once done, your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch will be rebooted into fully untethered jailbreak mode!

[HOW-TO] - Install (Port) Siri On iPhone 4 And iPod Touch 4G

Guys, it’s finally here; H1Siri is the first service making Siri porting to the public free of charge.

This full port of Siri is made for iPhone 4 GSM & CDMA versions and iPod Touch 4G only.

[HOW-TO] - Fix iTunes Error 1013 When Updating iPhone 4 to iOS 4.3.1 [SOLVED]

I was trying to Jailbreak my iPhone iOS 4.3.1 today but encountered a big problem when it cannot exit from the Recovery Mode. I tried several methods to kick out of Recovery Mode using Tiny Umbrella and Fix Recovery but failed. The error 1013 kept appearing after restoring the iOS 4.3.1.

Finally, I found a simple solution shown below;

If you have tried updating to the recently released iOS 4.3.1 update on iPhone 4 and encountered Error Code 1013 or Error Code 1611, then you are a not alone. This has been a common issue across all iOS devices updating to iOS 4.3.1 and Apple Support Discussion forums are full of users complaining about this issue.
iTunes-Error-1013-2011-04-4-21-51-2011-04-4-21-51.jpg
This bug has apparently been reported to Apple but if you don’t fancy waiting for an official fix, you can follow this guide to try and successfully update your iOS device to 4.3.1.

Update (April 11, 2011) - Read this article regarding Apple official statement regarding the problem - "Unauthorized modification of iOS has been a major source of instability, disruption of services, and other issues"

Before doing so, you may also like to try and restore using a different computer.
Warning Note: This will result in your iPhone 4 baseband being upgraded to the latest version.
How to Fix Error Code 1013:

Mac OS X:
Step 1. On your Mac, go to your “Applications” folder.
Step 2. Now navigate to the “Utilities” folder.
Step 3. Launch “Terminal”.
Step 4. Type “sudo nano /etc/hosts” (without quotes) and hit return.
Step 5. Enter your password
Step 6. Use the down arrow key to find the “gs.apple.com” entries. Once the cursor is in front, make sure you comment out the line(s) by entering “#” in front of the text.
Step 7. Save the file by pressing CONTROL+O.
Step 8. Exit the nano editor by pressing CONTROL+X.
Step 9. Restore your iDevice.

Windows:
Step 1. Start --> Programs --> Accessories
Step 2. Run Notepad or WordPad

Step 3. Click “Open..” from File menu.
Step 4. Browse to Windows/System32/drivers/etc

Step 5. In “files of type:” select all documents
Step 6. Open “hosts”
Step 7. Delete all line that has “gs.apple.com” or something like that

Step 8. Hit Save
Step 9. Restore your device

UPDATE (April 6, 2011)
Also try to check out this Tip from Karthik.

Screen-shot-2011-03-14-at-10.20.57-PM-2011-04-4-21-51.png

  • In TinyUmbrella, go to Advanced tab and make sure you uncheck “Set Hosts to Cydia on Exit” option.

  • As a double check, make sure you don’t have an entry in hosts file in your computer for gs.apple.com. If you do, comment it out and try the restore process again.

[UPDATE - April 11, 2011] - Someone posted and claimed that this error only happens to people who have tried Jailbreaking previously. Also checked another post here which stated:

"Well, another case of hurting the good, while trying to go after the bad. What the issue is apparently Apple put in a check point feature around version 4.2.1 that checks for users who are redirecting their connections to gs.appl.com. If the itunes process suspects this, your phone firmware management process stays in recovery mode. You get error 1013 which says you have a hardware error and list numerous hardware related things for you to check. So my iphone sat on my dresser for two months under the belief that I had a hard ware issue. Well the fact of the matter is that there was nothing wrong with my phone. Apparently there are users who jail brake their iphone to run other apps, and for those users, they have an entry in their hosts file that redirects gs.apple.com to a website that is set up to assists jail break users. all this not endorsed by apple. The checkpoint feature that apple put in to detect this uses a timer and waits for a response between your system and gs.apple.com. If the timer threashold elapses, an assumption is made that you are redirecting your gs.apple.com connection, and are a jail break user. Your phone gets put into recovery mode. Problem with this is that there are ligitimet users who have host files that are ligitemt and does not redirect their connections to gs.apple.com. In my case I use a 60,000 line hosts file to redirect adware, malware, and other vulnabilary type sites. The lenth of time for my PC to search thru this file exceeds the threashold period involved in the checkpoint process, and even though the gs.apple.com entry does not appear in my hosts file, an assumption was made that I was a redirection of gs.apple.com user, and my phone was put into recovery mode. to fix my problem I tempoaryily used the default hosts file of

##
Host Database
#
localhost is used to configure the loopback interface
when the system is booting. Do not change this entry.
##
127.0.0.1 localhost
255.255.255.255 broadcasthost
I have no reason to prevent my system from talking to gs.apple.com. It just takes a little longer to do so. There are thousands of iphone users right now who have iphones locked into recovery mode, probably because they are on a slow internet connection and their threashold is being exceeded. These folks are innocent victims of of the pursuit of the jail break users. Apple needs to figure out another way to do this with out impacting loyal customers. Apple. shame on you. "

Purchased mophie juice pack air

  • My iPhone 4 recently seems to drain the battery faster than ever. Most probably due to my high usage of Internet applications such as Whatsapp, Twitter, FB and Foursquare. In fact recently, when Whatsapp introduced its Group Chat, the traffic just increase tremendously.
  • Thus, I decide to buy an extra battery pack - its either Mophie Juice Pack Air or the Exolife. However, after watching the videos regarding both batteries, I decided to buy the Juice Pack.
  • First, I went to Machines in KLCC but it is out of stock even though one of my Twitter friends said they have in stock... :-(
  • However, I finally purchased it at Mac Studio in Low Yat Plaza. The price is RM 318. But they only have either White or Red color. I was trying to get the black one but finally decided to get the White one (since Apple did not launch its White iPhone 4)...

  • But later I realized the problem of getting the right iPhone 4 case for this. Due to its length, I cannot find any that suits it perfectly.

How To: Set APN for iPhone 4

FIRST METHOD
  1. There’s an online APN Generator.
  2. The iPhone 4 has no way to set your APN settings via the iPhone itself, so the best way is download the software below and set your APN accordingly.
  3. Open your Safari Browser with your iPhone 4, go to help.benm.at, go to the very bottom and click on Tethering. If your Country isn’t listed, go all the down to the bottom and create a custom APN and set your APN Settings there and click on Download. That’s it!

SECOND METHOD

Limera1n - Let It Ra1n...!!

  • There are things which you cannot wait and one of them is Jailbreak the iPhone 4 iOS 4.1. I have waited this for so long and as mentioned in my previous post - We have been "GreenPois0ned"..!
  • Since Geohot have released its Limera1n solution and GreenPois0n has simply delayed their release because the Dev Team don't want to expose two exploits at the same time, thus, there is no other way but to "Make It Ra1n"...!
  • I encountered a slight problem when I restore from my iOS 4.0.2 to iOS 4.1, the iPhone 4 always have an unknown error 1004 and showed the iTunes cable. Restoring it again doesn't work. Finally, I tried Tiny Umbrella to "Kick Device Out of Recovery". Finally, I managed to restore from my backup.

HERE ARE THE STEPS:
  1. Download Limera1n for Windows here.
  2. Link your iPhone using the USB with your PC and hit Make it ra1n when a prompter appears.
  3. As the device enters the Recovery mode, hold the Home + Power button and then release thePower button. This would then initiate the DFU mode.
  4. With the above procedures performed you will now see the Limera1n logo on the iPhone screen. It is here that Limera1n will take charge and Jailbreak your iPhone for good.
  5. You can then start the Limer1n app and run Cydia. Upon the completion of the Cydia installation restart your iPhone and praise Geohot for this jailbreak!

[Oct. 3 Update] - No GreenPois0n this week - I AM SHAttered!

Covering Web reported today, the hacker behind SHAtter exploit has confirmed that iOS 4.1 jailbreak will be released within few days, so most of users thought that hackers will release GreenPois0n jailbreak this weekend (as usual) but p0sixninja, Chronic Dev Team member has tweeted that the tool is not coming out this weekend.
"Sunday is a Funday" is dev team’s slogan, I believe ours is "Patience Please!"
It’s /not/ coming out tomorrow, I’m just getting sick of hearing dev teams slogan (as much as everyone else is sick of hearing ours =P)
And no that doesn’t mean it’s coming today either. Patience Please!!
My comments:

  1. My hopes are shattered today! After a long wait (more than 1 month), the GreenPois0n Jailbreak will not be release this weekend!
  2. Theoretically, iOS 4.1 GreenPois0n will be release before Apple release its iOS 4.2 which will be in November. Thus, it is safely to say GreenPois0n will be release in Oct. The question is - Which date?
  3. There are previous Tweets from @pod2g that it will be release within days (that was last week)
  4. Another theory is that Dev Team will normally release new Jailbreak solution on Sundays but the latest tweets prove wrong.
  5. Maybe its gonna be next Sunday or maybe one of the four Sundays in October.
  6. It seems to be a long wait ... again... My feelings are SHAttered too....*sigh*

Life without an iPhone 4 iOS 4.1 Jailbreak

  1. When I purchased the iPhone 4, Apple has just launched iOS 4.0.2. Thus, I missed the opportunity to Jailbreak it. The latest Jailbreak solution is for iOS 4.0.1 using the Jailbreakme solution.
  2. Currently, all the iPhone 4 owners are eagerly waiting for the Greenpois0n Jailbreak solution from Chronic Dev Team. The last known update reported recently stated it was about 80% ready.
  3. It was quite frustrating when "not much" can be done with a non-Jailbreak iphone. I missed the Winterboard themes and some of system tweaks.
  4. Its quite "boring" when the iPhone 4 is not Jailbroken.... How about you?
